The comedy 3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, pretty much broke all box office records in India (US$3+mil domestic and US$10+mil globally) won 16 out of 27 awards: including Best Director nod for Rajkumar Hirani and Best Film. Bollywood Veteran, Amitabh Bachchan won Best Actor for the film Paa.
The event was held in the Sri Lankan capital, Columbo. Ethnic tensions and controversy may have affected Star participation.
